How much does it cost to treat ageing skin?

Hannah Wilson

The truth is, you can treat ageing skin on a shoestring or you can splash the cash and go all out. There are tonnes of options out there for high budgets, low budgets and everything in between.

Here at Face Dr we understand that everyone, no matter their budget, wants value for money. That being said, when it comes to skincare, generally speaking, you get what you pay for.

Being aware of how much high-quality skincare and treatments cost will stand you in good stead when it comes to picking the right products and services for you and your budget. You’ll be able to know if you’re spending your money wisely and make better decisions for your skin and your purse.

In this article, we’ll run through three avenues you might want to explore if you're serious about starting your anti-ageing journey: Skincare products, Botox and dermal filler…

First up, at-home skincare…

ZO Skin Health hero at-home skincare

When it comes to skincare products there is an array of different options to explore and they’re all available at different price points. The good news is you can fill your beauty cabinet with decent skincare on pretty much any budget.

Here at Face Dr however, we’re not interested in decent. We’re after excellence – and we believe you are too – and for that, you’re going to have to up the ante. We specialise in something called cosmeceutical products (aka the very happy marriage between cosmetics and skincare).

When all is said and done, your skin is an incredibly complex organ and if it’s starting to age, it’ll need some scientifically-backed TLC and that’s what cosmeceutical products provide in abundance. They cost a bit more because they contain higher quality and higher concentrations of the active ingredients that actually do the work to help your skin.

Although you may see results with high street skincare, you’ll rarely find something that does the job as well as a pharma-grade product. More often than not, you’ll also find these more expensive products stretch a lot further than their cheaper counterparts (since you don’t need to use as much of them.) You know what that equals? More bang for your buck – and that’s just what we love to hear.

Anti-Ageing ZO kit

One of our most-loved anti-ageing regimes that’s been tried and tested by clients is the ZO Skin Health Anti-Ageing Program. With five products -four miniatures and one full-sized - we’re betting this isn’t as bad as you think. In the UK, ZO Skin Health and AllSkin Med prohibit any official stockist from showing prices online. If you create a customer account with us you will be able to see all pricing.

With this kit, you get the full anti-ageing experience and reap the benefits of using a series of products designed to work together and enhance each other’s abilities. Then, if you like what you see, you’ll know the full-sized versions will be worth it:

Exfoliating Cleanser

Exfoliating Polish

Complexion Renewal Pads

Daily Power Defense

Growth Factor Serum

We have a handy key on all of our products which displays roughly what you'd expect to pay for the product. So for medical-grade, professional skincare, you can expect to pay anything from around £15-40 for cleansing products, right up to £150 for the potent anti-ageing serums. Any good medical clinic will advise you of the best skincare routine while working with your budget.

All about Botox

Next up, Botox. Contrary to popular opinion, this is actually a preventative measure you can take to reduce the risk of premature ageing. Botox relaxes your facial muscles to stop them overworking your skin and causing it to wrinkle.

Unlike skincare products, this is something you certainly don’t want to scrimp on. Botox is a semi-invasive surgical procedure so it’s definitely not the time to risk being thrifty.

When done properly, you can rest assured the procedure will be safe and the results will look natural. Botox is a prescribed treatment and as such must be administered by a qualified medical professional. You can visit your local authority healthcare guidance for more information. To find out more about the risks and what to look out for, visit the Tay Medispa clinic blog.

Moreover, the Botox you’re getting should be as fresh as possible. Its efficacy depletes with time, so you want to opt for a clinic with a high volume of patients. If somewhere is offering cut-price injections, ask yourself why they’re so eager to get the product off the shelf. In addition, due to the fact that Botox is a prescription medication, clinics should not be advertising prices or offering discounts.

The price of Botox depends on the amount of areas in which you have it administered. According to the NHS, one syringe of Botox in the UK usually costs somewhere between £100 and £350. That’s also largely affected by the area in which you’re being treated. In London, prices start at a whopping £200 whereas in Perthshire the average price for one area sits at around £160.

Whether you opt for Botox or not, we just want to make sure you’re safe. Wherever you go, keep these points in the forefront of your mind and always do your research. Whether that’s using customer reviews or asking the clinician to assure you of their credentials, make sure you put your safety first and speak to a Skin Expert in the first instance as you may find a suitable skincare product option without the need for more invasive treatments.

Finally, dermal filler

If you have been noticing some fine lines, wrinkles or even sagging, dermal filler is another option you could choose.

As we age, our hyaluronic acid and collagen levels deplete. This causes skin to lose its volume which leads to folds and creases – especially around the more expressive areas (such as the mouth, nose and eyes).

The cost of dermal filler depends on the amount used. Prices range from around £240 for 0.5ml to £830 for 4ml in the UK. According to the NHS, “prices in the UK range from £200 to several hundred pounds".

Once again, it is best to discuss your options with a Skin Expert or Aesthetics Doctor in advance, as you may find a less invasive option to try in the first instance which will address your concern. However, if you would like to find out more about dermal filler and the risks involved, you can read Tay Medispa's article here.
