What is the Obagi360® System?

Obagi Medical 360 System

The Obagi360® system is specifically designed to help you proactively preserve youthful skin by feeding it everything it needs to stay healthy and happy in future years.

Created with younger skin in mind, it’s ideal for those in their 20s and 30s who are beginning to experience early signs of ageing, such as fine lines, hyperpigmentation, and less skin brightness than you might have experienced in your teens. The system is great for use as a preventative measure to kick-start your anti-ageing journey if you’re getting serious about skincare.

The Obagi360® system consists of 3 products to help you cleanse, rejuvenate and protect your skin, while helping to restore that glow, keep skin firm and smooth, and provide the long-term support needed for healthy skin in your 20s, 30s and beyond.

What products are in the Obagi360® System?

It can be a challenge to pick out which products work best together. Our Skin Experts can use their years of experience to help you do this, but it’s also handy to have a system specifically designed with products that compliment each other.

The Obagi360® System contains 3 products designed to work synergistically for superior results. The products in the Obagi360® system include

Obagi360® Exfoliating Cleanser

Obagi360 System Exfoliating Cleanser

A great everyday cleanser is the foundation of most skincare routines, and this collection is built around the Exfoliating Cleanser which helps clear the clogged pores that lead to a dull, uneven skin tone, and leave behind soft, smooth, supple skin that feels fresher and brighter.

Obagi360® Retinol 0.5%

Obagi360 Retinol 0.5%

Retinol is a fantastic ingredient that helps to reduce the signs of ageing and keep skin looking youthful for longer. If appropriate, we can also upgrade you to a stronger retinol product (like the Obagi Retinol 1.0 or the ZO Retinol Skin Brightener 1%) as a separate product, or as your tolerance increases with frequent use. We’ll go deeper into the benefits of this ingredient below, but you can also learn more by reading our article; What is retinol and how does it work?

Obagi360® Hydrafactor Broad Spectrum SPF30

Obagi360 HydraFactor Broad Spectrum SPF 30

The third step in this routine is the most important for long-term skin health, and that’s an SPF. This one acts as both sunscreen and an everyday moisturiser to soothe skin and offer the broad spectrum protection needed to prevent future skin damage from UVA/UVB rays.

If you’re curious to know more about the finish of this SPF product on skin, or other products we stock, you can speak to your Skin Expert or watch this video from Dr Julia: How to choose the right SPF finish for your skin

What can it do for my skin?

The Obagi360® System is all about cleansing, rejuvenating and protecting your skin, and in doing so, it provides the following benefits with continued use:

  • Reduces the early signs of ageing, such as fine lines and wrinkles
  • Helps to reduce breakouts
  • Helps to reduce skin pigmentation
  • Helps to even out skin tone
  • Boosts skin brightness and luminosity

What order do I use the products in?

Woman touching face

You may be familiar with the common cleanse, tone and moisturise routine, but with a moisturiser-meets-SPF combo and a retinol product in this system, you may be wondering what comes first. The great thing about the Obagi360® System is that it’s one of the simplest routines to implement, while being super effective.

For optimal results, your Skin Expert will likely recommend:

In the morning

Use the Exfoliating Cleanser, followed by the HydraFactor Broad Spectrum SPF 30, and continue to apply more as needed throughout the day.

In the evening

Use the Exfoliating Cleanser, followed by a light layer of Retinol 0.5%.

Retinol products should be used only once a day, and your SPF product will be most effective when applied in the morning, so the above routine will offer best results. If you want to learn more about the correct order to use skincare products, check out our article.

What ingredients are in the Obagi360® System?

Retinol

The products in the Obagi360® System feature many nourishing and effective ingredients, but the key players to mention are:

Retinol

Retinol helps increase production of skin cells which helps unclog blocked pores and smooth rough skin. It has become a go-to ingredient within anti-ageing products as it increases collagen production. Although you can purchase products with this ingredient over the counter, retinol is available in stronger formulations as a prescription product.

Retinol has been found to help reduce fine lines and wrinkles, hyperpigmentation, sun damage, uneven skin tone and texture, and more. You can learn more about the types of retinol available in our article; Retinols vs. Retinoids: What's the difference?

SPF

SPF stands for Sun Protection Factor, and it’s made up of a few ingredients formulated to create the skin protection you need. You may not think you need a daily sunscreen if you live in the UK where the sun doesn’t often come out, however, not only can wearing daily SPF help reduce risk of skin damage or skin cancer later in life, it can also help to delay the onset of the signs of ageing.

A 2020 review of studies found regular sunscreen use can reduce wrinkles, so if you haven’t already, start applying it to your face, neck, ears, and anything else that’s exposed to sun.

Who would benefit most from the Obagi360® System?

skincare consultations

The Obagi360® System can be useful for anyone in their 20s or 30s looking to improve their skin overall, but if you are beginning to notice small signs of your skin ageing, such as fine lines around the eyes or less firm skin, this could be the perfect system for you.

If your skin has heavier signs of ageing, the Obagi360® System can still provide improvements, however it is designed to cater to the 20s-30s age group so it may not be the best range for you. If you would like further advice on what’s best for you, your Skin Expert can help.

Who would not benefit from the Obagi360® System?

While the Obagi360® System can be super effective on many skin types, those in their 40s and older may find it doesn’t have the desired effects. Obagi360® is recommended as a preventative anti-ageing measure, so if your skin appears further along in the ageing process — for example, if you have more deep-set wrinkles or more noticeable hyperpigmentation — you may need a different system or product. Your Skin Expert will listen to your exact skin concerns and find the perfect collection of products to meet your needs.

Also keep in mind that if you have particularly sensitive skin, you should speak to your Skin Expert about this too. They may be able to adjust the products, percentages or frequency of use of the Obagi360® System in order to get you the best results.

Are there any side effects I should know about?

If you have sensitive skin, your Skin Expert can help you figure out the best products, or best way to incorporate this system more gradually to avoid any irritation, so reach out to speak to one of our team for expert, personalised skincare advice.

Remember retinol can be quite a harsh ingredient on skin, and the side effects can be mild to moderate depending on your skin type and tolerance level. Although they often only last a few weeks, watch out for:

  • Skin irritation
  • Itching or burning
  • Dryness
  • Skin peeling or flakiness
  • Redness
  • Higher risk of sun damage

These are pretty normal side effects when using retinol. Not everyone experiences them, but some are common so it’s worth discussing with your Skin Expert if you are worried. They can often recommend additional products to calm some of the irritation, or adjust the percentage or frequency of use of retinol in your routine.
