Why exfoliating your skin is so important

Whether you suffer from a dry, oily, or acne-prone skin type, exfoliating has an important role in all skincare routines. This is the step that will enhance product penetration, encourage cell turnover and improve the texture of your skin. ZO Skin Health places a high level of importance on exfoliation for this reason. As part of their “Getting Skin Ready” routine, we are going to discuss step 2, which is exfoliating. ZO Exfoliating Polish is one of our client favourites, so we will discuss a bit more about what it is, who it is designed for and a bit about how to use the product.

Product Spotlight: ZO Exfoliating Polish

ZO Exfoliating Polish is a gentle scrub that really does polish your skin! Exfoliation is step 2 in the ZO Fundamental 5 regime. As you are removing the dry, dead skin cells, your complexion will appear brighter, clearer and healthier.

Exfoliating Polish is a skin-smoothing scrub that can be used for general maintenance on the skin. It contains Vitamins A, C, E and round, fine magnesium crystals. The fine magnesium crystals will aid in the removal of dead skin cells, lifting and dissolving any impurities which are residing on the skin. Vitamins A, C and E deliver antioxidant protection to achieve and maintain a healthy skin barrier.

Who can use the Exfoliating Polish?

It is the perfect match for just about all skin types. However, please be cautious if you suffer from active acne as this exfoliator contains Vitamin C. ZO have another exfoliator in the range – ZO's Dual Action Scrub - which is gentler, and may be a better choice for you.

How and when do I use ZO Exfoliating Polish?

This product will be used after you have cleansed your face. We advise applying a small amount to damp skin. Gently massage this exfoliator into the skin for at least 60 seconds, you may wish to leave the product on for a few more seconds. This allows the skin to absorb the benefits of the exfoliator. Once exfoliated, remove with lukewarm water and pat the skin dry with a clean towel.

This exfoliator is advised for a dry skin type to use 2-3 times a week. If your skin is on the oilier side, as your skin is thicker and there is more oil to remove, we suggest using this product more often. It can be used daily if needed. If you find the product to be too much for your skin, to begin with, why not start by using it 2-3 times a week and then work up to using it daily.

Exfoliate in the morning, as this will help to set your skin up for the day and provide your complexion with a healthy-looking glow. You can, however, use it in the evening if you feel that it works better for you and your routine. If you are struggling for time, why not mix your exfoliator in with your gel-based cleanser? This way you are still achieving both the cleansing step and the exfoliation. If one morning you are pushed for time and your skin is in need of sloughing the dry dead skin cells, why not give it a go?

Skin Expert Tip:

ZO Skin Health Exfoliating Polish

Our Skin Experts highly recommend the use of an exfoliator for all skin types as it is a necessary step for the health of your skin. As you are massaging the product into the complexion, you are improving the circulation, increasing your cell turnover, smoothing out any uneven tone which all in all will leave the skin feeling very soft and smooth. This is achieved as you are removing the top layer of the skin cells which not only improves the texture of the skin, but it will allow for better absorption of products that you will apply after this step.
