What is Obagi Hydrate® Facial Moisturizer?

Obagi Hydrate® Facial Moisturizer

Obagi offers a range of great products that you can read about here, but the one we’re shining the spotlight on here is Hydrate® Facial Moisturizer — a firm favourite with many of our clients.

This facial moisturiser is non-comedogenic, meaning it doesn't block pores, and is formulated to offer skin instant and long-lasting hydration whether applied in the morning or evening. It also helps prevent the fine lines and wrinkles associated with the early signs of ageing.

What will it do for my skin?

In a word… hydrate! The active ingredient in this moisturiser (more on this below) has been clinically proven to improve the moisture content of skin and provide up to 8 hours of hydration. If you suffer from dry, dehydrated or flaky skin, this product promises to soothe and enhance skin smoothness.

What is Hydromanil™ and why is it used in this product?

Skincare & beauty products

Hydromanil™ is a natural active compound formulated to provide optimal moisture levels and prevent water loss. It’s the main active ingredient in Obagi’s Hydrate® Facial Moisturizer, providing superior hydration that you can rely on throughout the day.

Hydromanil™ matrix molecules are clinically proven to help enhance the appearance and texture of skin by capturing water and absorbing it into the epidermis over time. This innovative technology helps to prevent skin cracking, reduce water loss on the surface of the skin, retain moisture within, and protect the natural bacterial condition of the skin.

What other ingredients are used?

As well as Hydromanil™, the benefits of Hydrate® Facial Moisturizer come from a number of naturally derived ingredients like shea butter, mango butter, avocado and glycerin, all chosen for their ability to replenish skin hydration and nutrients to reduce skin dryness.

Who would benefit most from Obagi Hydrate® Facial Moisturizer?

skincare consultations

This is a favourite with many Face Dr clients as it works to improve a variety of skin types. No matter your skin condition, your Skin Expert will usually recommend some sort of moisturising product, and the Hydrate® Facial Moisturizer is often a go-to for its efficacious ingredients and long-lasting skin moisture.

Those who may benefit most from this product include anyone with:

  • Dry or flaky skin in need of hydration.
  • Rough, bumpy or uneven skin in need of smoothing.
  • Skin regularly exposed to extreme weather and temperatures.
  • Skin regularly exposed to dehydrating elements like central heating.

It’s also worth noting that Hydrate® Facial Moisturizer is a light lotion, so it’s best for those requiring milder skin hydration.

Who would not benefit from Obagi Hydrate® Facial Moisturizer?

As above, Hydrate® Facial Moisturizer is a light moisturiser, so it may not be enough for those in need of an intense moisturiser with a thicker, richer texture and more penetrating ingredients. Obagi Hydrate® Facial Moisturizer therefore may not suit:

  • Anyone with very dry, flaky skin in need of a more intense moisturiser
  • Anyone with a preference for richer, thicker, more buttery moisturisers
  • Anyone who needs a moisturiser to help control an anticipated reaction to a retinol product

If you need a richer moisturiser, your Skin Expert may advise Obagi Hydrate Luxe® instead, or if you prefer a thinner, more serum-like consistency they may recommend Obagi Daily Hydro-Drops® Facial Serum

What products should I use alongside it?

The correct order to use your skincare products can sometimes be confusing. Your Skin Expert will advise the correct order, but as a general rule you should apply your Hydrate® Facial Moisturizer after you have applied a cleanser, rinsed, and patted your skin dry.

If you want to use the Hydrate® Facial Moisturizer as part of a larger system for best results, the Obagi Nu-Derm® system could work for you. Read more here: What is the Obagi Nu-Derm® system and how does it work?

How often should I use it for best results?

Generally you will use a small amount of Obagi Hydrate® Facial Moisturizer in the morning and again in the evening. If your skin needs additional hydration, your Skin Expert may advise that you apply it at other times throughout the day to enhance results.

What do the Obagi Hydrate® Facial Moisturizer reviews say?

skincare

On the Obagi website this product is very well reviewed, with many 5* reviews from happy product users, such as:

“This is the daily use product that everyone should be using. It is light enough for my oily skin and partners well with every product.”

Our Skin Experts always offer unbiased, honest advice about the products that would be best for your skin, and this honesty extends to our blog. No fluff, no filler — we always tell it like it is, so in the case of Hydrate® Facial Moisturizer it’s important to note that there are also a few 2* and 1* reviews on this product on the Obagi website.

These reviews primarily mention the product didn’t work for their skin type, as well as a strong smell, so do keep this in mind if you are particularly sensitive to smells in skincare. Speak to your Skin Expert before purchasing to ensure it’s the best product for your skin type, to avoid wasting money.

How much does the Obagi Hydrate® Facial Moisturizer cost?

At Face Dr, Obagi Hydrate® Facial Moisturizer is never sold above RRP, and costs £46.32.

Summary: Should I try Obagi Hydrate® Facial Moisturizer?

Obagi Hydrate® Facial Moisturizer

If your skin is feeling dry, flaky, or rough to the touch then Obagi Hydrate® Facial Moisturizer could be a strong contender to help rehydrate your skin and improve its feel and appearance. With innovative Hydromanil™ to prevent skin water loss and help hydrate skin for up to 8 hours throughout the day, it’s an excellent choice for a daily moisturiser that continues to provide impressive results for our clients.

That said, even the very best products we stock won’t work for absolutely everyone, so we always recommend speaking to one of our Skin Experts first to discuss your specific skin needs and what products in the Obagi Medical range (or others) could work for you.
